The olympic pictographs have always been a huge part of the design package for the games. Covid decided that the Japan 2020 Olympic Design was too amazing and decided the world wasn’t ready. Amid the delay, Japan called and asked if I would consider approaching the pictographs and giving them a redesign*.

The goal was to design four sport signage that was unique but very clear as to what it represented. I used action photos to trace basic body proportions and then brought them into illustrator to refine them.
