“The town of Húsavík sits on the eastern shore of Shaky Bay, known around the world as the Whale Capital of Iceland. In the past years whales have been spotted in 98% of all whale-watching trips. It is also the site of the first house built in Iceland, in the year 860, by Swedish viking Garðar Svavarsson. Húsavík is conveniently located for day trips to most of the major attractions in Iceland, part of the Arctic Coast Way and the starting point of the Diamond Circle.”

I learned about Húsavík while watching the Netflix movie Eurovision. The film was great, and as the credits faded away, I was still thinking about the small Icelandic town. When the tourism branding project was announced, one of my first thoughts was of Will Ferrell with golden hair singing on a Volcano.

The logo depicts a whale with her calf roaming the waters below a prominent mountain range and historic church. I wanted the whales to be a family representing the close-knit nature of the small town.
